Expanding the Conversation

POSTED MAY 12, 2010

It’s been more than a dozen years since I started writing, speaking and blogging about green design. That’s a lot of words; yet, there’s always more –so much more – to say about this growing and vibrant discipline, somewhat still adjunct to the practice of design but filled with the possibility of full integration that is now so enticingly in our sights. To get there we must—all of us—work together to assure a road less bumpy. Interiors designers, architects, engineers, lighting designers, product manufacturers, contractors, landscape architects, real estate brokers, developers, educators and our clients are the participants in this process. We are also its beneficiaries, personally, economically, socially and environmentally.

Designing and constructing green spaces is insightful, inspiring, motivational, taxing, and at times, really hard. It’s a discipline, much like any other, to be learned – best done with open dialogue and an exchange of ideas and experiences.

This, the first of my posts on mygreenpalette.com, expands the conversation. In the coming months, we will bring you topics large and small, all geared to helping you achieve your individual and professional green goals. Dialogue works best when it goes both ways. What issues are most interesting and important to you – economic issues including the selling of green design as well as its bottom line benefits, working with LEED, finding and evaluating green manufacturers and products, life-cycle assessment methods and standards and certifications, greening your office, your library and even your boss? Have you had spectacular successes or heart-wrenching disappointments? Share your stories and case studies. Controversial issues – no problem.

Let’s begin...
